Our Animals

Meet the animals who call Final Run Rescue home

Chowder
We welcomed Chowder into our lives in January 2024, and he’s been filling the farm with joy ever since. After the loss of our heart dogs, this little guy found his way to us through our friends at Lucky Pup Rescue in Greenville, SC — and it was love at first paw.

Chowder is all sunshine and zoomies, with a bright, energetic spirit and a talent for never having a bad day. His DNA says he’s mostly Border Collie and Great Pyrenees… with a surprise 1% Chihuahua, just to keep things interesting.

Hershey
Hershey was rescued in May 2023 after being saved from an auction and welcomed to Final Run Rescue, where he quickly stole our hearts. He is a miniature horse with dwarfism, a genetic condition that causes daily stiffness, joint swelling, mobility challenges, and a severe underbite he was born with.

Hershey is considered our most extensive medical case and requires ongoing, specialized care — but we truly can’t imagine the farm without him. Though small in size, his heart is enormous. Sweet, gentle, and endlessly affectionate, Hershey’s favorite thing in the world is curling up for a nap right in our laps.

Fava Bean
Rejected at birth by his mother, Fava had a difficult start to life. Without the immunity he needed, he required two plasma transfusions and continues to live with a compromised immune system.

Despite those early challenges, Fava has become a favorite among volunteers and visitors alike. Full of personality and spirit, he proves every day that a tough beginning doesn’t limit a bright, joyful life.

Snackpack & Pickles

Meet our resident banana-loving pig pack — Snack Pack + Pickles, our Kune Kune pig duo who proudly (with enthusiastic grunts) call Final Run Rescue home. As our official greeters, they’re always happy to welcome visitors, especially if bananas are involved.

Equal parts charming and snack-motivated, these two are steal hearts (and treats) wherever they go.

Cornbread + Crouton
Cornbread and Crouton are our rescue capybaras who traded an unusual past for a life of comfort here at FRR. Instead of a poolside novelty, they now spend their days enjoying open space, gentle care, and plenty of attention.

Cornbread is all about sunshine and fresh corn, while Crouton thrives on company and snuggling with guests.

Korba
Our most important employee and the heart of our  protection team, our main livestock guardian dog takes his job very seriously.

Day and night, he watches over the farm with quiet dedication, forming bonds with the rescues he protects. His fierce loyalty and calm presence make him an irreplaceable part of life at Final Run Rescue.

S'mores

S’mores is our rescue dwarf horse mare, saved from an auction and a life of constant breeding. Though tiny in size, she’s overflowing with personality and confidence.

She’s best friends with Hershey, our other resident dwarf horse, and the two are rarely far apart. Together, they’re a small but mighty duo who bring endless charm to the farm.

Baby Ruth
Baby Ruth — lovingly called Ruthie — came to Final Run Rescue in February 2024 when she was just one day old after being abandoned by her mother. A sweet, mischievous, Nubian goat, she keeps up on our toes and loves exploring the pastures and testing the strength and structure of our pasture gates.

Ruthie is always ready to welcome visitors with curiosity and charm.

Orion
Not technically a rescue, but very much a part of the rescue fam, our Gordon Setter is known for his endless energy and unmatched dedication to tennis balls.

Loyal, loving, and happiest when included in everything, he brings joy and a little chaos to daily life at Final Run Rescue. Every farm needs a good dog — and ours just happens to be tennis-ball obsessed.

Sprout

Sprouty holds a very special place in our hearts as the first goat ever rescued by Final Run Rescue. She came to us as a one-week-old kid after being surrendered to the ER animal hospital where Fran was working, and she’s been calling FRR home ever since.

Now the undisputed alpha of our goat herd, Sprouty runs the show with confidence and charm — and you’ll often find her happily bossing everyone else around.

Spriggy

Spriggy was found abandoned in a cardboard box at a gas station before being rescued and brought to Final Run Rescue. After arriving, she quickly found comfort and friendship in Sprout, and the two have been close ever since.

Now safe and loved, Spriggy spends her days doing what she loves most — stretching out in the sunshine and soaking up the warmth.

Sundae

Sundae came to FRR in 2023 after being rescued from a hoarding case when she was just a week old. She spent her first winter learning about life indoors alongside our dogs, quickly making herself right at home.

Full of spirit and spunk, Sundae is always on the move — climbing, hopping off troughs, and proudly strutting across any wooden plank she can find. Adventure is her favorite pastime.

Snickers

Snickers is one of our original rescues, saved from an auction when she was just four months old — because auctions are no place for babies of any species. From the moment she arrived, it was clear she was meant to stay.

Now the self-appointed leader of the rescue crew, Snickers runs the farm with a big personality and strong opinions. She’s especially fond of her best friend Korba the livestock guardian dog, and loves reminding everyone who’s in charge — particularly when dog food is involved.

Waffles

Waffles came to Final Run Rescue as a six-month-old baby, arriving already bonded to another pregnant jenny we had rescued, though she wasn’t her mother. From the beginning, Waffles found comfort in companionship and quickly settled into life on the farm.

Quiet, affectionate, and endlessly gentle, Waffles is our resident Eeyore. She’s rarely far from your side, content to follow along as a steady shadow, offering calm company and soft moments in a busy world.

Juniper

Juniper came to Final Run Rescue pregnant and in need of proper care, nutrition, and a safe place to rest. She was rescued by our mentor at Maples Mini Donkeys in Florida and generously entrusted to us to live out the rest of her life in comfort.

In May 2024, Juniper welcomed a beautiful baby boy, and she’s been thriving ever since. When she’s not caring for her little one, you’ll often find her doing one of her favorite things — happily rolling around in the dirt, enjoying the simple joys of farm life.

Ella

Ella is our beloved “old lady” and the eldest donkey at Final Run Rescue, at 18+ years young. After her owner suffered a stroke, Ella and her herd were left in need of consistent care, and we’re grateful their family trusted us to step in.

Today, Ella and her friends spend their days roaming open pastures, soaking up the sunshine, and enjoying a well-earned, peaceful life — exactly as she deserves.

Maximus

From the moment we met Max, there was an instant connection. One of four donkeys rescued after his owner suffered a stroke, Max quickly won us over with his sweet nature and love for scratches.

If you take a seat in the field, you can always count on Max to wander over and say hello — he never misses a chance to make a new friend.

Scarlett

Affectionately known as our “potato with legs,” Scarlett came to Final Run Rescue alongside Maximus and Ella and immediately stole the show. Compact, sturdy, and endlessly expressive, she has a way of making herself the center of attention without even trying.

Spunky and full of personality, Scarlett is guaranteed to make you laugh with her antics. Scarlett brings joy, humor, and a whole lot of character to the farm.

Midnight

The quietest of the bunch, Midnight arrived at Final Run Rescue with her friends in search of a healthier life and proper nutrition. When she came to us, Midnight was struggling with obesity, and together we’ve been working to help her build better habits and feel her best.

Soft-spoken and steady, Midnight continues to make progress each day, enjoying a calmer pace and a brighter, healthier future on the farm.

Maggie

Maggie was rescued in December 2023 after spending nearly two years confined to a small pen with little sunshine and no grass. When she arrived at FRR, she only knew fear — everything about her new life was a “first,” from wearing a halter to being in an open pasture.

Since then, Maggie’s world has expanded, and so has her spirit. Once timid, she has blossomed into our most enthusiastic greeter. Affectionate and curious, Maggie shows her love like a cat — leaning in for full-body rubs and the occasional unforgettable hug.

Marshmallow
Marshmallow — lovingly called Mallow — is our resident dwarf mini mule who came to Final Run Rescue from a difficult past marked by abuse. With patience, care, and time, he’s learned to trust again.

Today, Mallow has found comfort, friendship, and a whole lot of love alongside our resident pony, Snickers. Their bond is a beautiful reminder of how healing happens when animals are given safety and kindness.
